Speaker Information:

Carol Buschur
Carol is an active member of the SAFE Program at University hospital taking call since its inception in 1997. She has presented at community events, instructed for SANE classes, and lectured across the region on sexual assault and interpersonal violence issues. Since March 2003 Ms. Buschur has been the clinical manager for the SAFE Program at University Hospital Cincinnati. She has developed University Hospital SANE classes since 2003. Ms. Buschur helped found the Regional Forensic Council that is now sponsoring its 4th annual forensic conference this March. She leads the Sexual Assault Care Network in Hamilton County. Ms. Buschur received her MSN with a forensic concentration at Xavier University and is currently pursuing her MSCJ at Xavier.

Gail Heller
Gail Heller has been the executive director of CHOICES, one of Ohio’s largest and most comprehensive domestic violence programs since 1987. In addition to serving in leadership roles with several local, statewide and national organizations and taskforces, her responsibilities at CHOICES include policy development, program planning, case consultation, expert testimony, proposal writing, and training for corporations and professionals.

Heller is a graduate of the Ohio State University with a BA in Sociology and an MSW. She is licensed in Ohio as an independent social work supervisor (LISW-S).

 

Anne M. Murray
Ann is Director of the Domestic Violence & Stalking Unit at the Office of the Columbus City Attorney Richard C. Pfeiffer. A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, she worked as a victim advocate in the Domestic Violence Unit while awaiting the results of the Bar, and became the first prosecutor to specialize in domestic violence cases for the Office. She has specialized in Domestic Violence prosecution since 1996.

The Columbus City Attorney’s Domestic Violence & Stalking Unit consists of four specialized Domestic Violence prosecutors, and twenty victim advocates, liaisons, and support staff. This initiative is part of a concerted effort to focus attention on the issue of domestic violence and stalking: both to achieve the successful prosecution of offenders and to ensure the safety of survivors.

 

Marla Farbacher
Marla Farbacher is an Assistant Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney in Columbus, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1990 and her Juris Doctor in 1993, both from the Ohio State University. She has practiced criminal law since her admission to the Ohio bar in November 1993, both as a defense attorney and a prosecuting attorney. She has worked as an Assistant Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney for approximately 12 years. While at the prosecutor’s office, she spent 2 years in the Abuse Unit, prosecuting adults for offenses of violence against women and children. She has been on the criminal trial staff, prosecuting adults for felonies ranging from drug possession to capital murder, for over 10 years. During that time, she has tried over 40 cases. On a personal note, she is married to a detective with the City of Columbus, Division of Police and has two sons.
